Lady of the Skies and Storms: An Environmental Thriller in the Permafrost

In northern Russia, the shaman Num from the Nenets nomadic tribe uncovers a 10,000-year-old, lavishly adorned grave of a Black woman in the thawing permafrost. Could she be a queen? Perhaps even our shared ancestor? These questions set the stage for Wilfried N'Sondé's latest novel, which quickly pits the interests of science against the oil industry, as a spiritual connection with nature confronts cold, economic calculations.

N'Sondé will read excerpts from his novel, transporting us to the icy, formidable tundra. His depiction of an ancient Arctic inhabited by Black people is grounded in real historical research. Following the reading, he will discuss the scientific insights that underpin his novel and their personal significance to him.

A book signing with the author will follow the discussion at the book table.

This event is organized in cooperation with the French Embassy in Germany, Department of Science and Technology.
