Equality in Structural Change

It Takes Collective Effort – A Conversation with Sociologist Jutta Allmendinger

In many rural areas, more people are leaving than moving in, especially women. This is also the case in the Lausitz and other regions currently undergoing fundamental structural changes. It appears that young women in particular see no future prospects for themselves here. Yet, significant upheavals also bring substantial opportunities. For men and women to shape these developments equally, much still needs to change. For over three decades, sociologist Jutta Allmendinger has been studying how gender equality can be achieved. Her sobering conclusion: We are moving backwards into the future.

In this discussion, she will explain why this is the case and what can be done to address it.
