Prof. Dr. h.c. Jutta Allmendinger, Ph.D. is Professor of Sociology of Education and Labor Market Research at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and has been Honorary Professor of Sociology at Freie Universität Berlin since 2012. From 2007 to 2024 she was President of the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB).
She studied sociology and social psychology in Mannheim, Madison, Wisconsin and at Harvard University, Cambridge, where she also completed her doctorate. Jutta Allmendinger completed her habilitation at the Free University of Berlin. From 1992 to 2007 she was a professor at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and from 2003 to 2007 Director of the Institute for Employment Research at the Federal Employment Agency in Nuremberg.
She has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit First Class, the Communicator Prize - Science Prize of the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft and the Schader Prize, among others. In 2014, she was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Tampere.
Jutta Allmendinger is active on numerous advisory boards in Germany and abroad. She has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Berliner Stadtreinigung BSR since 2016. In 2017, Jutta Allmendinger was appointed to the editorial board of the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and by the Holy Father to the Pontificial Academy of Social Sciences. She has been Chairwoman of the Scientific Commission of Lower Saxony (WKN) since June 2024 and a member of the German Ethics Council since July.
