Dr. Roland Philippi

Dr. Roland Philippi has been State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) since July 2024.

Dr. Roland Philippi has many years of administrative experience at federal and state level as well as broad expertise in education, science and research policy. After studying political science, he completed his doctorate at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main while working. His subsequent professional career initially included senior positions at the Ministry of Justice, Integration and Europe and the Ministry of Culture of the State of Hesse. From 2018 to 2021, he was Head of Division in the FDP parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, with responsibility for education and research, among other things. Dr. Roland Philippi then headed the “Policy Issues and Strategies; Coordination” department at the BMBF until July 2024. In this position, he played a key role in the development of the Future Strategy for Research and Innovation and the conception of the German Agency for Transfer and Innovation (DATI).
