Science Notes: Sound and Noise feat. Moritz Simon Geist

Can we hear the stars? What does our brain sound like when we think? And why does music touch our hearts and bring us together?

In Science Notes, we explore the wonderful and surprising world of sounds and noises. Through five short segments, writers, artists, and scientists share stories from their sonic explorations at the intersection of science and society. Musician and artist Moritz Simon Geist will premiere his specially designed live performance, "Mad Science."

Moritz Simon Geist, musician and artist, will present his new performance.

Prof. Dr. Hauke Egermann, musicologist, will discuss how music connects and influences us.

Florian Sievers, music journalist, will talk about data sonification, aka how to make data audible.

Dr. Monika Eberhard, biologist in the new field of Tremology, will show us how animals use tapping and drumming to communicate.

Friederike Potengowski, musician and researcher, will take us to the origins of music and play a replica of the oldest known instrument.

Jörg Piringer, poet, musician, artist, and researcher, will perform works written for our latest edition and also create some noise.
