New European Bauhaus - Bauwende in Mitteldeutschland: reconstruction instead of demolition.
Excursion, clay workshop, photo shoot and talk.
Central Germany has the highest proportion of adobe houses (30%) in Germany.
The adobe house with its dingy “poor” image is increasingly being transformed into the recycling house of the future. The GOLEHM initiative is working on this. After all, the building sector is responsible for around 40 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. And: In Germany, 230 million tons of construction and demolition waste are produced every year, which accounts for a good 55 percent of all waste. The “Demolition Atlas” project, initiated by architects for future and others, makes the phenomenon of demolition visible for a more prudent use of building resources. An excursion with a photo shoot of adobe houses in Halle worthy of protection together with archaeologists from GoLehm and an adobe workshop with adobe architects from Schwemme e. V. provide insights for a building turnaround 2045 in the region.
On Saturday, November 2nd there will be two excursions with Dr. Franziska Knoll offered clay houses in Halle under the motto: Clay is beautiful! Life in the clay (house) is even more beautiful. Clay is fireproof, protects against sound and – thanks to its openness to diffusion – ensures a first-class indoor climate. Clay is available and usable almost everywhere for building purposes. In contrast to concrete, it can be recycled without any compromises and with little energy expenditure. In short: clay is the building material of the future. And can look back on a long success story. People built their first houses with clay over 7,000 years ago. Traditionally, buildings in Central Germany have been constructed with load-bearing walls made of clay for over 500 years, and some of them are still standing today. In rural areas, clay buildings still make up up to 30 percent of the total building stock. In urban areas, however, only a few historic adobe houses can be identified.
We want to explore with you the last witnesses of clay construction in the Giebichenstein district and showcase the clay photographically, according to the motto: Clay is beautiful - show it! You need: a mobile device to take photos, a spirit of discovery and a desire for something creative. Do you want to find out more about earth building in Central Germany?
