I studied Medicine and had my first research experience in the field of translational oncology at the University Würzburg in Germany, where I got fascinated by the cellular and molecular basis of organisms and their pathology. However I realized that in particular psychiatric diseases lack mechanistic understanding of basic cellular functions. This motivated me to start my PhD at Michael Brecht’s laboratory, where I got the opportunity to study neural circuits (with the focus on the somatosensory system) underlying sensations and animal behavior.
