Dr. Ariane Krause

Ariane Krause is an industrial engineer with a keen interest in sustainable provision of basic human needs such as food, energy and toilets. She researches and works in the fields of circular economy, inter-sectional resource management, soil fertility management, resource-oriented sanitation, and renewable energy technologies.
In her interdisciplinary PhD thesis at TU Berlin, she conducted research on small-scale circular economy at the nexus of energy, sanitation and food supply in a rural region in Tanzania.
Since 2018, she has been a post-doctoral researcher at the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops, investigating the material coupling of food production with resource-efficient energy and sanitation systems.
As a post-doc at the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) e.V., she has coordinated the research project "REGION.innovativ - zirkulierBAR" since 2021.
Besides science, she is freelancing in the field of technology & environmental education as well as consulting & planning on dry toilet systems.
