We are thrilled to announce that the inaugural Audience Award of the SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival goes to "Of Caravan and the Dogs," directed by Askold Kurov and Anonymous1.
This poignant film highlights the crucial importance of the freedom of the press.
In their documentary, filmmaker Askold Kurov and his team use Russia as a case study to illustrate how the state can stifle an independent press, delving into the societal consequences when media is manipulated.
The film was showcased as part of the Science Year 2024 theme of Freedom at the SILBERSALZ FESTIVAL. It won the audience vote against 21 other films that explored topics such as artificial intelligence, the fight against malaria, and the influence of social media.
Under this year's motto “Shake well”, we would like to encourage our visitors to rethink their own points of view and be open to new ideas. By mixing and merging, whether in a test tube or in a public debate, exciting new connections and innovations can emerge. We encourage you to adopt new perspectives and to question existing structures through films, talks, exhibitions and events on relevant and exciting topics at SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival.
A total of over 80 free events will take place in the center of Halle (Saale) as part of the 7th SILBERSALZ Science & Media Festival. From October 30 to November 3, 2024, the former Galeria Kaufhof building will be transformed into a place of art, culture, discussion and exchange. You can look forward to world-class film productions, award-winning international installations, exciting discussion formats and a science and structural transformation market in the former department store. Other events can be experienced at the Halle Planetarium, the Leopoldina, the Puschkino, the Halle State Museum of Prehistory and Café Koffij. This year, we will have a special focus on the themes of freedom, structural change and (futuristic) visions in all four sections of the festival.
From October 30, SILBERSALZ invites you to experience the participatory art installation “The Throne” by the artist group Armada of Arts on the market square daily from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm. The project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research for the occasion of the Year of Science, offers festival visitors the opportunity to translate personal thoughts and associations about freedom into spontaneous paintings and to follow how a large, collective work of art is created during the festival days.
